The importance of a makeup preview

One of the hardest part of our job is envisioning what our clients really want to look like on their important day. Many of our clients look on Pinterest for ideas of what the perfect makeup application looks like, but not keeping in mind the skin tone, the shape of their features, or even the lighting involved into making the photo.

Many times our brides to be find themselves in a bind of what "trial" they should get to stay within the budget. A lot of times our brides will come in with a hairstyle that they really want, but not sure if we could do the style to their hair, so they think they should do the hair trial over a makeup trial.

Most of the time our clients have long enough hair to do about anything to. We do let them know about the minor things of their hair that might cause a difference from the model's photo from their own hair.

Makeup is always the best trial to get, even if you don't have a lot of allergies. A lot of the times we get photos of what some gals thinks is a natural look until you look closely at the photo and notice all of the makeup that goes into it. There is also a lot of photoshopping going on in these photos as well to soften the face, unlike something directly out of the camera. Here is a few of the most popular ones that we tend to get.

While these are gorgeous ladies with makeup that looks great with their eye color and skin tone, It's not just a little eyeliner, little blush, and lipgloss that makes it, there is all kinds of primers, different tones of makeup to contour the eyes and face, false lashes, along with good skin to start with.

A makeup preview allows you to work with your artist who will be doing your wedding day, making sure that you both see eye to eye on your vision. You can see how well the makeup lasts on your skin, or if the colors are right for you later in the day. Do you still feel like you in the look we have given you? Are your lashes the look you were going for? All of these are important when it comes to your wedding day.

Tattoo coverage

As the big day approaches brides (or sometimes party members) decide to get their artwork covered (or encouraged by family members to get them covered).

Having a product that drys fairly quick, that doesn't rub off on clothing, and help look as natural in photos as possible requires an experienced makeup artist.

Columbus Traveling Beauty Team is highly experienced at this! We use an alcohol based airbrush makeup that can actually last, sometimes even some parts through a shower (as you can see on this photo below, how some layers can really adhere to the skin).

The even better part is that it is hypo-allergenic, super sanitary, and can even help with acne scaring, hiding birthmarks, or even stretchmarks (to a degree).

All of our clients that we have helped them with the coverage are shocked by the results.

Tattoo coverage isn't only for weddings, but we can do it for photo shoots or family events (when you don't want grandma remarking about your recent tattoo).

Make sure to get ahold of the ladies of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team when you want to look your very best.

Reasons to get hair extensions

When it comes to hair extensions we have many reasons to consider them. Here is our top reasons.

  1. Your hair only grows so long before it breaks off.
    • Hair extensions that are light on the hair can help your hair grow better than it has before.
    • You learn to take care of your hair and not have the pressure of trying to add volume that can actually hurt your hair
  2. You had a bad chemical service that left you having to cut a lot of your hair off.
    • As long as your hair is 2-3 inches long you can get extensions, if you are using an expert like Christine Carpenter of Styles by Chris/ Columbus Traveling Beauty Team.
  3. Over time of lots of stress your hair has thinned out
    • We offer top integration pieces that disguise thinning hair on top.
    • Top pieces can fill in the areas that are super thin. We offer some different choices for different hair.
    • keratin bond extensions can help give you a lot more hair on the sides and back and the bonds are able to be split to not add a lot of weight to the hair.
    • Tape extensions can help, but are not 100% non-damaging.
  4. New hairstylist gave you a bad cut that you just can deal with growing out.
    • This could be your most expensive haircut. Making sure you are with an experienced artist can help save you from bad extensions as well.
  5. Tired of short hair?
    • going from short hair to go to long will take extra extensions to help blend in, but don't expect to go from short hair to hair down to your butt and still look totally natural. At the consultation we can help choose the most appropriate length for you.
  6. Limp hair with no style.
    • gain a ton more hair with extensions. But don't expect it to dry and style as fast as your normal hair.
  7. Suffer from trichotilomania?
    • Extensions can give your hands actual purpose when it comes to getting into your head.
    • Trichotilomaninia sufferers can also hide where they had pulled their hair out.
  8. Have a big occasion coming up that you want to look your best for
    • There are several different methods depending on your hair type and how long you plan on wearing them. Less expensive clip in extensions can start around $120 and go up to over $400. Semi-permanent ones can start around $400 and go up by length, thickness, and type. Set up a consultation to learn more
  9. Want to look younger?
    • longer hair that is shiny can help make someone look younger. However, too long can drag down the face, though.
  10. Highlights anyone?
    • You can add hair extensions to your hair to bring a new color into your hair without having to put any chemicals in your hair. Want pink, purple, blue, or even just a red or blonde. Now extensions in come in ombré.

If you fit into any of these reasons, then contact us now to talk more about extensions for yourself!

Changing the angle!

When a lot of new clients who come to Chris of Styles by Chris and owner of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team are always a little shocked on how fast I can transform their hair in such a short amount of time, sometimes even on the first visit.

Changing the angle by the slightest amount can make or break a haircut, especially on fine/ thin/ thinning hair, while also the change of hair color can make a big difference as well.

Determining how someone typically wears their hair, and showing them a few other choices of cuts, colors, or help picking out hair extensions is what I find my clients love most about coming to see me.

I don't have just one look to do on everyone, but I can see what needs to be done to help discuss the problem areas.

Some of the things I like my clients to use to help trigger growth is:

  1. Find out what is causing the issues. Could it be hormonal, or just bad hair coloring. Get an appointment with your doctor to get it tested for thyroid, vitamin deficiencies, blood pressure, or diabetes.
  2. Think back to when the problem first started to occur. What was going on in your life to warrant this change to your hair? Where you going through some stressful situation? Did you change your diet? Go through some hormonal changes (start "the pill", starting menopause, etc)? Go through some weight changes? Just have a surgery? or Could your hairdresser be doing too much to your hair chemically and causing it to fall out?
  3. Are you taking your vitamins? If not, let me go over a few that I have seen that have helped others.
  4. What kinds of products are you using on you hair? How often are you shampooing? Are the products you are using drying out your scalp and hair?
  5. Are you willing to change your normal routine to help get your hair the way you've always wanted?
  6. Would you ever consider getting hair extensions?

Hollywood, here we come!!!

So we may not be traveling to Hollywood, but for the past few days Cheri Fritch and Faith Walker of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team actually had the opportunity to work on a few Hollywood actors.

Cheri had helped Will Brittain with his hairstyling as Faith helped Will and Tyler Hoechlin keep from being shiny as the guys promoted their new movie "Everybody wants some!!!!"

In Hollywood image is everything, and we believe that it should matter when you have any big occasion as well.

Some guys might not like the idea of having anyone style their hair or wear any makeup, but they also don't like the idea of looking bad for big events.

This is where the professionals of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team come in to help with "enhancing or distracting" the clients looks to help them look and feel their best in photos, or on camera (or even just getting together with people).

Columbus Traveling Beauty Team does offer male grooming services for family photos, senior pics, tv appearances, weddings, Bar mitzvahs, and any other special event that a man might want to look his best.

Let us know how we can help get you looking picture perfect! Contact us at www.ColumbusTravelingBeauty.com

Fitness Competition Hair and Makeup

Having nice full hair and dramatic makeup might not be the look for every person, but for the ladies that are showing their bikini bodies this is the necessity.

In 2015 hairstylist and makeup artist,  Chris of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team, got to help a few ladies get ready for one of the scariest, yet exciting days of a person who works super hard to look their very best to get judged by a panel of judges at a fitness competition.

Our first gal came all the way from Alaska to compete in the Arnold Classic.
(photos compliments of Instagram).

Not only did we help with her face and hair, but when her spray tan started to come off, we were able to help her out by using some of our dura airbrush makeup to help blend it in. She looked absolutely amazing!

Our second fitness gal was entering her second ever competition. She started out by getting in shape for her wedding, which turned to addiction to keeping in shape.  The price of keeping her body in shape as she ended up winning 2nd place.

Our team was so happy that we could help with these ladies. They are living their dreams while looking amazing during it! We are so proud of them.

As a side note, our newest member Lisa has not only been helping all kinds of ladies with fitness competitions for quite some time, but she has been competing herself (and doing a great job at it). She has a true passion for the work it requires to make sure these ladies are looking their very best.

If you are a gal hoping to look your very best for a fitness competition, we are always loving helping! Just let us know what we can do for you!

March wedding

Saturday March 28th, 2015 at 3:30
Christine and David's wedding
Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Clintonville, OH

It might have been cold outside, but Christina was warmed by the friends and family that came to celebrate the day with herself and David. CTBT was there to help make the brides hair beautiful. This is what we came up with!

Chris of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team created this soft curl with twists on Christina, using noting but her natural hair. When Christina first got in contact with CTBT she thought she might have needed some help with hair extensions. Obviously you can tell she didn't need them. She has plenty of hair. It just takes a team that know how to work with hair to make it stand out more.

We  can't wait to see pictures of Christina in her dress! Amanda Muschlitz of Mushchlitz Photography, LLC.

Congrats Christina and David.
